Absolutely right. There is now a solid scientific rationale to support a call that the public to wear masks — no just health care workers. The SARS-Cov-2 virus concentration in the nasopharynx is extremely high (compared to SARS) and we can assume that most transmission is via large sneeze/cough droplets and not just via the small aerosols that only the N95 respirator masks can efficiently filter out. Also, molecular analyses of mucosa epithelial cells suggest that the human docking protein for the virus to land on tissues is most abundant in the nose. Hence simple makeshift masks and surgical masks are likely to offer substantial protection — thus helping to flatten the curve. For more see here.
